The Bridal Dance is a western Pennsylvania wedding tradition. During the Bridal Dance, all of the guests at the wedding line up to dance with the bride to polka music. They each pay $1 (or $5, $10, etc) for a shot of alcohol (if they want it) and the opportunity to dance with the bride for about 5 seconds. After dancing with the bride, they join the growing crowd of people holding hands and dancing in a circle around the bride. After all the guests have danced with the bride and are dancing in circles around her, the groom with his groomsmen try to break through the crowd to get the bride. The groom eventually reaches his bride and carries her away. Watch the ending of the dance here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOIVomkF7ug
Founded in 1979, Pennsylvania Dance Theatre (PDT) continues to thrive on national and international stages, producing intense, thought-provoking modern dance performances. Under the direction of German born choreographer Andre Koslowski, the company is joined every year by a committed pool of internationally renowned choreographers, set designers, music directors, and dancers, who work together to explore the boundaries between contemporary dance and theatre. This years performance during the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts features two world premieres with guest artists from New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Oslo Norway. PDT is based in State College, PA

As Long As We Dance is a glimpse inside the final New Faces of An Ancient People Traditional American Indian Powwow held in State College, PA. The 30-minute documentary features the stories of American Indian dancers, drummers, vendors and organizers from various tribes, many who travel hundreds of miles to participate in the powwow each year. As Long As We Dance shows the powwow’s impact on the participants and the surrounding central Pennsylvania community.
